Trivia Black puts a spotlight on the music, art, history, sports, and culture that shape and celebrate the Black community. From Stevie Wonder to Insecure, from Jackie Robinson to Lauryn Hill — every question is a small invitation to remember, recognize, and connect.
On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and the freedom of enslaved people — more than two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is the oldest known African-American holiday observance and became a federal holiday in 2021.
We celebrate it as a day of freedom, remembrance, and joy. Today, we play.
